A routine inspection turned into a sweet bust for authorities in Brooklyn this week. State Finance Department officers, who were at the Gates Candy & Grocery store in Bushwick on Wednesday for an untaxed cigarette inspection, reportedly tipped off police. Their suspicions were apparently raised by a hidden door. Police returned the next day with a search warrant, allegedly uncovering more than just candy — heroine, the narcotic fentanyl and drug paraphernalia — all part of an alleged drug operation inside the secret room. According to ABC7, police estimate the haul to be about $100,000. Two men were arrested in the bust, according to CBS3 — Hamdan Alsaidi, 33 of Queens, and 46-year-old Mohamad Ali of Manhattan. They face multiple charges, including drug trafficking. Read more: www.metro.us/new-york/cops-bust-drug-operation-inside-brooklyn-candy-shop/zsJpfx---uhzDAPX9Rgsl2/
