An Independence man arrested Thursday by Jackson County Sheriff's deputies has been charged with tampering with a judicial officer after he allegedly sent threatening email to a county circuit court judge. According the court documents, 58-year-old Timmy Graves sent a message from his cell phone that was received by a division clerk. The message was from an unnamed sender, but the sending address had a phone number. In the message, the sender used multiple vulgarities as he threatened both a judge and his wife and said a metro newspaper was waiting. Investigators traced the number back to Graves using an online reverse lookup, then later obtained a subpoena for the number and requested AT&T for subscriber information. They also found Graves had several domestic court cases in front of multiple county judges since 2006, including two full orders of protection and a divorce. AT&T confirmed Thursday that the number was subscribed to Graves. After he was picked up on a questioning advisory, Graves requested a lawyer and refused to talk with investigators. Prosecutors have requested a bond of $50,000. Graves faces up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
