Williams' shareholders vote for ETE merger; company appealing Delaware court decisionThe results from the special meeting of Williams Cos. stockholders are in, and shareholders have overwhelmingly cast their votes in favor of the Tulsa-based pipeline company completing its proposed merger with Energy Transfer Equity. In a press release Monday afternoon, Williams announced that more than 80 percent of votes cast were in favor of finalizing the proposed merger with ETE. The results represent more than 63 percent of all outstanding shares of Williams common stock. Williams also announced Monday that it has filed papers beginning an appeal in the Delaware Supreme Court of the Delaware Court of Chancery’s ruling last week relating to the merger agreement between the two energy companies. On Friday afternoon, Judge Sam Glasscock ruled in favor of Energy Transfer Equity by denying Williams’ request to stop ETE from canceling the merger because of the lack of a needed tax opinion.
