More than 328,000 people voted in New Mexico’s primary elections on June 7, a record turnout, Secretary of State Brad Winter said Tuesday. Even so, only 34 percent of eligible voters cast their ballot in the primaries, Winter said during a state Canvassing Board meeting at the Capitol. By comparison, about 160,000 people voted in the 2008 primary elections. Another 149,000 voted for president earlier that year in a caucus hosted by the state Democratic Party. The highest voter turnout among counties this year was Mora, where 53 percent of eligible voters participated. Santa Fe County was next with 49 percent, according to the Office of the Secretary of State.
