MIDLAND, MI — Tuesday, June 28, officials with The Dow Chemical Co. announced the Midland-based chemical giant would be cutting approximately 2,500 jobs worldwide, or 4 percent of its workforce, including about 700 jobs in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The news came after Dow assumed full control of its longtime subsidiary Dow Corning Corp. and ahead of its planned merger with Wilmington, Delaware-based DuPont. Dow and Dow Corning directly employ about 8,600 people in the region. It's not yet clear which workers will be affected by the layoffs.
