HOLLAND — Using Lake Michigan and the Holland State Park as a backdrop, Gov. Rick Snyder signed the state’s $38.8-billion budget on Wednesday that covers all noneducation-related state services. The bucolic setting was chosen, Snyder said, to emphasize investments in natural-resources protection, including a new competition that will look for methods to prevent invasive species. Snyder and Republican lawmakers there for the signing also touted the fact that the fiscal 2016-17 budget, which begins on Oct. 1, was done months ahead of schedule for the sixth year in a row. “We’re six for six on completing the state budget in June,” Snyder said in a statement. “The budget for the next year provides the investments we need to keep Michigan’s momentum going strong.” Read more: www.freep.com/story/news/politics/2016/06/29/snyder-signs-388-billion-budget-state-government/86523866/
