Seattle sues Trump administration over sanctuary cities orderSeattle is suing the federal government over President Donald Trump’s executive order cracking down on so-called “sanctuary cities,” Mayor Ed Murray said Wednesday. The city’s goal is to have the order declared unconstitutional, Murray said. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The announcement comes two days after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Department of Justice would turn up the pressure and withhold grants from “sanctuary” jurisdictions for not doing more to help the Trump administration capture and deport people living in the U.S. illegally. Seattle is following in the footsteps of several other cities, including San Francisco, which in late January became the first city in the country to challenge Trump’s order in court.
