Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s daughter is fighting prosecutors’ plans to call her as a witness in her mother’s upcoming fraud trial. Shantrel Brown said in a motion to the court that she’ll plead the Fifth Amendment — invoking her right to not incriminate herself — and “will remain silent in response to any questions” if called. Shantrel Brown, an attorney and Washington lobbyist, argued there would be no point in making her appear if she refused to testify. “The only purpose for calling Shantrel Brown would be for the atmospheric effect upon the jury to see the defendant’s daughter invoke her Fifth Amendment rights,” said the motion, filed Wednesday.
