Officials: Too early to say if naked man killed in police action had weapon
Austin police said it was too early to tell whether the 18-year-old black man killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday in Northeast Austin was armed. Austin police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said he would not speculate on whether the man, who was not wearing any clothes when the shooting occurred at about 4:25 p.m., had any weapon when the incident happened. Police continued to canvas the scene Monday afternoon, but they have reopened part of the area of Natures Bend where the shooting happened for traffic and neighbors to return to their homes. One neighbor, who did not provide her name, said that she had seen the same man roaming the streets of the small, quiet neighborhood in the past two days. She said she heard two gunshots Monday.
