University of Buffalo apologizes after 5,000 mistakenly told they were acceptedBUFFALO, N.Y. — More than 5,000 prospective students at the University at Buffalo were mistakenly notified by email that they had been accepted into the school in Upstate New York. University spokesman John DellaContrada said the mistaken email was sent on Wednesday to students whose application had not yet been fully reviewed. He said the university sent a second email about three to four hours later notifying the students of the gaffe and apologizing for it. The university posted a statement on its website saying the "miscommunication occurred when an incorrect email list was generated from an applicant database." The statement said it was important to note that the students who received the mistaken email are still being considered for acceptance by the university.
