Forget global terrorism, income inequality and climate change. There’s a new front in the battle between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders — a hefty soda tax proposed in Philadelphia.
Democratic Mayor Jim Kenny last month called for a 3-cents-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks, adding 36 cents to the price of a can of Coke.
Clinton was all for the tax, telling an audience in Philadelphia that it would be a great way to reduce childhood obesity and fund universal pre-K — despite her vow to not raise taxes on the middle class.
“I mean, we need universal pre-school. And if that’s a way to do it, that’s how we should do it,” Clinton said.
