VDOT: 2016 paving plan for Richmond area is largest, most costly everThe Virginia Department of Transportation’s Richmond District says its $125 million paving program for 2016 will resurface 1,540 lane miles of state-maintained roads in the area. VDOT said the program is the largest ever, both in terms of lane miles and price tag, for the region. “We’ll be able to maintain safety, preserve the structure of hundreds of roadways and provide for smoother rides around the Richmond region,” said Steven McNeely, the district maintenance engineer, in a news release. The district oversees maintenance and construction on routes in 14 counties: Amelia, Brunswick, Charl es City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan and Prince George. It also includes the cities of Richmond, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg. The district is responsible for about 18,000 miles of roads. About $27 million will be spent on local interstate sections, including 78 miles of asphalt paving and 18 lane miles of concrete repairs, on sections of Interstate 95, Interstate 295, Interstate 85 and Interstate 195.
