PeaceHealth workers in Springfield and Eugene ratify first contract with hospital system
More than 1,000 cooks, housekeepers, certified nursing assistants and other workers at PeaceHealth’s Sacred Heart hospitals in Springfield and Eugene have ratified their first union contract.
Members of Service Employees International Union Local 49 on Monday evening voted 533 to 11 to approve the contract, which covers 1,082 employees.
SEIU officials called the contract “historic” because it covers the largest group of newly organized Oregon health care workers in nearly 20 years.
The three-year contract between SEIU Local 49 and PeaceHealth takes effect immediately, said Debra Miller, PeaceHealth system vice president for labor and caregiver relations.
