OXFORD — The legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Alabama said Thursday the organization is considering a legal challenge to Oxford’s new bathroom law. “We’re definitely looking at it,” Randall Marshall said in a phone interview Thursday afternoon. Marshall called the city’s newest law, which restricts bathroom usage according to a person’s sex as displayed on his or her birth certificate, an escalation of a “disturbing trend” in what the ACLU sees as legal restrictions aimed at transgender people. The City Council’s president, though, has said the ordinance has nothing to do with discrimination, but is intended to improve the public’s safety.
