State universities faculty union still at loggerheads with management over new contractThe faculty union and management of the 14 state universities met on Thursday and swapped revised one-year labor contract proposals but neither found the other's acceptable. The only agreement that was reached was to come back to the next scheduled round of talks in June with a longer-term contract offer to put on the table. Ken Mash, president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, described Thursday's session as ending in "disappointment and frustration." The faculty union, which represents 5,500 professors and coaches, has been working without a contract for nearly 10 months. Negotiations to try to reach an agreement on a new pact between it and the State System of Higher Education have been happening in fits and starts for well over a year.
