Gov. Phil Bryant signed a bill Wednesday that would create a regional authority over the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. Senate Bill 2162 passed the Senate on a party-line vote in April after much push back from Jackson and airport officials, who claim the state is attempting to steal the airport from the city. "It's a move a school yard bully would make," Sen. John Horhn, D-Jackson, said on the Senate floor during debate. "You are doing it because you can, not because it's needed." Sen. Josh Harkins, R-Flowood, the bill's author, denied those claims, offering that under the new leadership, Jackson would still appoint five out of nine board members.
