A former Saline County Court assistant clerk pleaded guilty this week to two felonies for using her position to steal thousands of dollars from the office. Jodi Rezabek, 42, could get up to 10 years in prison at her sentencing in August on charges of felony theft and attempted forgery. She already has paid restitution, according to court records. Rezabek had been set for trial later this month on four charges, three of them felonies, but instead reached a deal with prosecutors and entered the plea Tuesday in Saline County District Court. A June 2015 audit by the Nebraska State Auditor’s office turned up a $15,500 discrepancy in the county court’s financial books. When confronted, Rezabek admitted she had taken the money to pay a contractor who had done work at her home and altered the court bank statements to conceal it, according to a report by the Auditor’s Office. A closer look showed that she also had drawn a $62,529.39 cashier’s check from the account in May 2015 and deposited it a month later, and had taken $1,119.65 in cash-on-hand, the report said.
