PERU – The Miami County voter registration clerk who told a crowd of people they likely wouldn’t be able to vote during Tuesday’s primary has resigned from his position. Paul Wilson resigned Friday after telling people at the end of a line of around 130 residents lined up at the courthouse that they likely wouldn’t make it to vote before the polls closed at 6 p.m. Wilson cited former state code, which required voters to be within a 50-foot chute of the polling place to be allowed to vote after 6 p.m. That state code was amended last year to allow anyone in line by 6 p.m. to vote. Miami County Clerk Tawna Leffel-Sands said she and Wilson were unaware that the law had changed.
