More UW campus faculty declare no confidence in regents, CrossNo-confidence votes against University of Wisconsin System leaders are passing on campuses across the state in the wake of the UW-Madison faculty's symbolic protest earlier this week over the handling of state budget cuts and changes to policies that weakened faculty tenure protections. An unprecedented gathering of the full faculty at UW-Milwaukee is scheduled Tuesday to consider a no-confidence vote in UW System President Ray Cross and the Board of Regents, similar to one passed by UW-Madison's Faculty Senate on Monday. No-confidence resolutions are also planned at UW-Green Bay and UW-Eau Claire. Faculty senates at UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse quickly followed UW-Madison's lead and passed their own no-confidence measures this week. UWM's proposed resolution notes the campus recently achieved a significant milestone for the first time in its history when it was named a top-tier research institution in the Carnegie Classifications. Academic freedom, shared governance and state funding for the campus missions of access and research made that accomplishment possible, the resolution says.
