HARTFORD — Democrats gathered Saturday morning to nominate U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal for a second, six-year term, but they spent much of their time talking instead about the man who will be at the top of the Republican ticket in November: Donald Trump. "Donald Trump is the single most dangerous person to ever seek the presidency," Lt. Gov Nancy Wyman told more than 1,000 delegates in the hall of the Connecticut Convention Center. "And all of us need to fight like hell to make sure he doesn't come close to that Oval Office." Three Republicans are vying for the nomination to challenge Blumenthal: August Wolf of Stamford, Jack Orchulli of Darien and state Rep. Dan Carter of Bethel. One of those men will be chosen at the GOP convention Monday, but Democrats didn't mention them on Saturday. Instead, they used their convention to fire up party loyalists and direct their attention toward Trump. "The stakes, frankly, have never been as big as they are this year," U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy said. "The candidates the other side puts up get crazier and crazier every two years." Read more: www.courant.com/politics/elections/hc-democrats-convention-hartford-20160507-story.html
