TAVARES — Days after Mayor Robert Wolfe turned himself in to Lake County detectives at his bondsman's office on a warrant for discharging his weapon in an occupied dwelling, he issued a statement declaring his innocence and his desire to continue his tenure as the city's leader. "I am completely innocent of the false allegations thrust upon me and as soon as this fact is made clear to the authorities and I am exonerated I look forward to continue to serve my community and bring a more positive light on it as we move into the future," a statement distributed today by the city reads. Wolfe, 47, was arrested late Friday after a Lake County Sheriff's Office investigation determined the mayor fired a shot of target ammunition in his home after an argument with his wife, Sharon Wolfe, on April 25. As a condition of paying his $10,000 bond, a judge ordered Robert Wolfe to have no contact with Sharon Wolfe, said Walter Forgie, supervising assistant state attorney in Lake County. Sharon Wolfe on Thursday evening filed a domestic-violence complaint against her husband, claiming he struck her on the arm and threw his broken glasses at her at a Tavares bar, records show. She told investigators two witnesses saw the incident. Both gave statements alluding to seeing an argument but made no mention of physical contact, records show.
