After pleading guilty to terrorism, John Booker Jr. will be appointed a new attorneyJohn Booker Jr., a young Topeka man who pleaded guilty to attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, will be appointed a new attorney. During a court hearing Friday, Booker’s attorneys asked U.S. District Court Judge Carlos Murguia to excuse them from the case. Over the past several weeks, attorneys from the Kansas Federal Public Defender Office have developed “a personal conflict” with the Booker case, according to Melody Evans. Evans, who along with Kirk Redmond has represented Booker since his arrest last April, volunteered to explain the conflict to Murguia outside the presence of newspaper reporters.
