ACLU challenges law that could close two Alabama abortion clinics
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a legal challenge against a law that could close two of Alabama's five abortion clinics and another that would outlaw a second-trimester abortion procedure.
Last month, the Legislature passed a law prohibiting the state from licensing or renewing the license of an abortion clinic within 2,000 feet of a K-8 public school.
That could force the Alabama Women's Center in Huntsville and the West Alabama Women's Center in Tuscaloosa to close, according to the lawsuit.
Lawmakers also passed a bill banning what the lawsuit says is "the safest and most common" second-trimester abortion procedure.
