Minnesota Democrats, stuffed into Minneapolis’ Orchestra Hall for their annual convention on Saturday, viewed the presidential battle with cheers and dismay. Dismay at presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, whom speakers called a disgrace, a fraud and a disaster. Cheers at mentions of Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. And, most disturbing to Democrats pleading for unity, there were cheers and dismay at both Clinton and Sanders, one of whom will soon become the presumptive Democratic nominee. “Donald Trump can’t beat a united Democratic Party. But he might beat a divided one,” Gov. Mark Dayton told the 1,000 delegates in a speech he called one of the most important he had ever given to party activists.
