Tulsa Democrat's bill to reform sheriff's office appraiser system statewide failsA bill targeting the use of sheriff’s office appraisers’ positions for “political patronage” failed to pass as the 2016 legislative session drew to a close last month. State Rep. Regina Goodwin, D-Tulsa, authored House Bill 2380. The legislation was designed to require some level of certification and address cronyism concerns. The measure failed in the House, garnering 47 yes votes to 40 no votes. Goodwin on Thursday said four more votes were needed to have a majority in the 101-member House. Goodwin suggested that the people involved in the process are resistant to change, and she noted that they argued that the issue was a Tulsa problem and not statewide. She called it a “nice little gravy train” that is legal.
