Group sues Federal Election Commission for dropping Murray Energy probeWASHINGTON, D.C. - A watchdog group that asked the Federal Election Commission to probe whether Murray Energy illegally pressured its workers for campaign donations has sued the federal agency over its decision to drop the case. Although FEC staffers recommended pursuing an investigation of the Pepper Pike-based coal mining company's political fundraising practices, the agency's governing board voted to drop the case in April. The decision outraged the entity that on Friday filed the charges - Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, as well as dissenting board members who said the precedent would let corporations "feel they may ride roughshod over the rights of their employees." The agency began investigating Murray Energy after a 2012 New Republic article described how the company "has for years pressured salaried employees to give to the Murray Energy political action committee (PAC) and to Republican candidates chosen by the company."
