Gov. Snyder announces new Michigan water strategy at Lake St. Clair gatheringOn a spectacular, sun-splashed day along the banks of Lake St. Clair, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder unveiled the first step of Michigan’s Water Strategy, a 30-year-plan to inspire stewardship and to protect, manage and enhance the state’s numerous waterways Friday. He can only hope the results of the plan will be equally spectacular. At a time when Snyder and the state are under siege due to the disaster of the Flint water crisis and the continuing threats of active and potential invasive species, among other things, the announcement of the new water strategy provided a positive and community-unifying approach to protecting valuable water resources down the road. Part one of the strategy released is centered upon promoting stewardship through improving water literacy and community engagement, and on protecting and preserving Michigan’s water resources. “We’re all in this together,” Snyder said, flanked by Jon Allan, director of the Office of the Great Lakes, Congresswoman Candice Miller and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel at the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station in Harrison Township. “Our love of water and the Great Lakes binds us together. We’ll be rolling this out over the course of the next year in various elements.” Read more: www.macombdaily.com/government-and-politics/20160611/gov-snyder-announces-new-michigan-water-strategy-at-lake-st-clair-gathering
