FAIRBANKS — Gov. Bill Walker signed Senate Bill 74 on Tuesday, a cost-cutting bill aimed at reforming the state’s Medicaid system. The legislation was sponsored by Sen. Pete Kelly, R-Fairbanks, and put together with the cooperation of the Walker administration. The key provisions of the bill include the expansion of telemedicine, the expansion of case management for people with chronic health conditions and enhanced fraud detection. Additionally, the state would seek to work with hospitals to reduce the overuse of emergency rooms. It also includes reforms to the substance abuse treatment and increased tools to combat the growing opioid epidemic. The bill is estimated to save more than $365 million in the first six years it’s in place. www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/medicaid-reform-signed-into-law/article_47e1a2dc-382d-11e6-a5cc-1fe2cb1ac839.html
