Sen. Mike San Nicolas said Monday that lawmakers are “really, really close” to having a bill intended to reform GovGuam’s retirement system ready for a legislative session. “For all those (government employees) who are waiting to retire, we’re getting there,” San Nicolas said. “We’re almost there.” San Nicolas’ comments came at the end of a lengthy roundtable meeting at the Guam Legislature where the Government of Guam Retirement Fund presented financial impact scenarios and projections should certain changes be made to Bill 2-33. The measure, more commonly known as the hybrid plan, is primarily meant to address the roughly 8,000 government employees who haven’t generated enough savings to retire under the current Defined Contribution plan.
