The infamous water wars between Georgia and Florida has ended up costing the public nearly $30 million over the last year. Just after Gov. Nathan Deal urged state lawmakers to leave the emergency fund intact, the Governor signed an executive order this week that shifted $3.5 million from the state’s emergency fund to pay the latest water wars legal tab. This was already on top of another $26 million the Governor set aside last year for the case’s expected legal fees. The two states are still awaiting an official order from a special master to resolve the long fight. The water feud between Georgia and Alabama involved water flowing from Lake Lanier downstream through Alabama all the way to Florida’s Apalachicola Bay.
