Former President Jimmy Carter receives humanitarian award in PhoenixFormer President Jimmy Carter said the United States should be a superpower not just militarily but also a champion of peace, environmental quality and generosity toward others as he accepted a humanitarian award Friday night in Phoenix. “I am very grateful and honored to come here,” Carter said to a standing ovation from guests at the black-tie ceremony at the Arizona Biltmore. Carter, 92, is this year's recipient of the O'Connor Justice Prize, an annual award named after retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
