The Atlanta Journal-Constitution January 17, 2017, Atlanta — Gwinnett County Commissioner Tommy Hunter listens to Gwinnett residents who turned out Tuesday to rail against the “racist pig” comment that Hunter posted on Facebook about John Lewis. (Henry Taylor/ henry.taylor@ajc.com)Gwinnett County Commissioner Tommy Hunter walked out of a Gwinnett NAACP meeting Tuesday night (February 14) after audience members began arguing with each other and the group’s president over his presence. Hunter has already faced several heated calls for his resignation at commission meetings over Facebook posts he made, in which he called U.S. Rep. John Lewis a “racist pig” and referred to Democrats as “Demonrats” and “Libtards” among other things. The meeting with the NAACP had been billed as an opportunity for the group’s members to ask him questions. Some attendees said the chapter’s membership was never asked if it wanted to hear from Hunter and ended up calling for local NAACP President Marlyn Tillman’s resignation as well as Hunter’s. “You were not invited (and) you are not welcome,” Penny Poole told Hunter during the meeting. “The only thing we will take is your resignation and, now, the resignation of President Tillman.” Read more: www.gwinnettdailypost.com/local/hunter-walks-out-of-naacp-meeting-as-tensions-flare/article_dae84ffe-9b0b-5660-8aed-2acd586ae441.html
