In an era of sharp partisan divide, Rep. Elizabeth Esty is the first Democratic member of Congress to get a bill signed into law by President Donald Trump. Esty's office said Tuesday that Trump had signed the Promoting Women in Entrepreneurship Act and the Inspiring the Next Space Pioneers, Innovators, Researchers, and Explorers (INSPIRE) Women Act. The bills passed the House and Senate unanimously. The two bills, which were jointly written by Esty and Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., ask the National Science Foundation and NASA to encourage girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. "No matter how contentious or passionate our political disagreements may get, as representatives for the American people, we must never stop working toward common solutions that will improve people’s lives," Esty said in a written statement. www.courant.com/politics/capitol-watch/hc-esty-bills-trump-signed-story.html
