RIB MOUNTAIN - Rib Mountain is suing to prevent Marathon County from changing the town's addresses. The Marathon County Board voted in February 2016 to establish a uniform addressing system throughout the county, with the goal of making it easier for law enforcement and emergency crews to locate facilities throughout the region. Board members set aside $1.2 million to help municipalities implement the change. Towns in the county have to participate in the new system, but cities and villages are not required to implement the change. The proposal encountered resistance from some businesses and homeowners who don't want to change their addresses. Rib Mountain filed its complaint Wednesday, town attorney Kevin Terry said at a Friday press conference. The town is asking the court to prevent Marathon County from implementing the uniform addressing system ordinance and asks the judge to rule the county has exceeded its authority by passing the ordinance.
