ALBANY – Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino filed two lawsuits Tuesday in the fight over closing the Indian Point nuclear plant that helps power the region. The lawsuits come after Astorino threatened to do so last month and after Democrats in the county legislature wouldn’t go along with his suit. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Entergy-owned plant announced in January that it would shutter by 2021, but Astorino is suing to force the state to undergo state environmental reviews first. “Our lawsuit has nothing to do with the debate over nuclear energy,” Astorino said at a news conference. “It has to do with safety and the rule of law. Ultimately, the issue isn’t whether Indian Point stays open. It’s that any plan to close the plant must fully comply with the law."
