The Scranton School Board president and another director violated board policy by accepting campaign donations from Scranton School District employees and vendors, a Times-Tribune review of campaign finance reports found. Board President Bob Sheridan, who said he was unaware of the rule the board unanimously approved in February, accepted $4,250 from people who regularly do business or work for the district, according to reports filed last week. He said he believes the rule is unfair to incumbents. “My First Amendment says anyone can come to my party,” Sheridan said. “It’s our First Amendment right.” Both he and Director Robert Casey also accepted $3,000 donations from a political action committee based in Luzerne County. Since September, the committee, PA/FWD, received $6,000 in donations from Dunmore businessman and district transportation provider Louis DeNaples.
