When the Delaware Department of Justice moved to close the Gold Club just outside Wilmington city limits last fall, it cited in court records ongoing problems with vehicle thefts, illegal drugs, shootings and stabbings. The 10-page filing also said the Delaware State Police had been called to the gentlemen's club, at 1031 S. Market St., at least 237 times for criminal nuisance issues since Jan. 3, 2012, even more reason for Attorney General Matt Denn to seek changes at the property. Most recently, a man was shot to death during a fight outside the club, on Nov. 16. While many businesses and properties attract criminal behavior, or at least regular police calls, to be declared a nuisance property, there must be illegal activities occurring involving guns, drugs or gangs and a material disturbance to the nearby community.
