The Calvo administration’s budget request for next fiscal year proposes spending about $736.44 million of general fund revenue on government operations, nearly 11 percent more than appropriated funds for the current year. Gov. Eddie Calvo released his fiscal 2017 budget act request on Monday. The administration is expecting a boost in revenues for fiscal 2017 -– an increase of $72.4 million compared to the anticipated revenue for the current year. In total, the governor anticipates revenues from the general fund, special funds and federal matching grants to be $981.8 million. In a letter attached to his budget request, Calvo wrote that 2015 was Guam’s best year for tourism, which saw more than 1.4 million visitors. Such a feat, he added, shows the island’s economy continues to experience growth and maintains stability.
