Woman found guilty on 29 counts of fraud tied to laser treatment of cancer patients A Tulsa jury convicted a 71-year-old woman on 29 counts of fraud Wednesday in connection with a laser treatment business she operated for cancer patients that she claimed was 100 percent effective in killing tumors. Antonella Carpenter looked up at her public defender and clutched his arm as the first of the guilty verdicts were read in federal court. She then stared down at her lap as the guilty verdicts continued to pile up. The jury found Carpenter guilty on two counts of mail fraud, five counts of travel fraud and 22 counts of wire fraud. The jury, which deliberated about 3½ days after hearing nearly four weeks of testimony, found Carpenter not guilty on nine counts of wire fraud. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on three wire fraud counts. U.S. Attorney Danny Williams said afterwards that “justice has been served.” -snip- She faces up to 10 years in prison on the travel fraud counts and up to 20 years in prison on the remaining counts. Also as part of her sentence, a criminal forfeiture money judgment will be entered against the defendant in an amount of approximately $1,102,160, representing proceeds obtained as a result of her fraudulent scheme, according prosecutors.
