Please pardon my digression from reporting the regional and local news to concentrate on the major news event of tonight—the protests at the Donald Trump campaign event in Chicago.
I am ashamed that Donald Trump has inspired the rise of the nationalism in America. The rise of Nazi imagery in his campaign is disappointing and it is making it difficult to see envision what his vision is for this country. When I see the fascism, anger and hatred of Trump supporters that we saw tonight in Chicago tonight and at several other of his rallies over the past few months, then I wonder how any problems will be solved in this country when all that I see is the “us vs. them” mentality and Donald Trump leading that revolution. I disagree with Republicans on many policy issues, but when I see a presidential candidate that does everything within his power to divide Americans then something is wrong.
Hearing some Trump supporters call for showing (insert despised group name here) back to their place is the most oppressive and backward philosophy that can be adopted. While I can understand people being nostalgic about the good old days, oppressing and subjugating people is not a solution to the struggles that lie ahead. I think that we should look forward to the future instead of reliving the past.
America will have a choice in November and whether the Democrats nominate either Hillary or Bernie it is clear that electing Donald Trump won’t make America great again. I do not look forward to a Fourth Reich in America and I implore voters in both political parties to do what they can to stop it. I still have faith that the majority of Americans will have the wisdom to reject the cancer known as Donald Trump from American politics so that we never have the pleasure of telling Donald "you're fired" because he was never hired to begin with. It was difficult enough to live through eight years of George W. Bush as president and this country has no hope if Donald Trump somehow winds up in the White House.
