An end-of-session health care bill in the Idaho legislature, tabled Monday for possible amendments, won’t get a hearing until Wednesday at the earliest, lawmakers said Monday.
The bill pending before the House Health & Welfare committee aims to move the state toward seeking a federal waiver to use Medicaid dollars for a managed-care system to cover the 78,000 poorer Idahoans who currently can’t get healthcare. Since initial drafts of the bill began circulating last week, supporters have asked for amendments, delaying Monday’s hearing.
Meanwhile, opponents inside and outside the legislature are working hard to derail the bill. Opposition is from those who oppose entitlements or any further implementation of the 2010 Affordable Care Act.
The House Republican majority appears sharply divided on the bill, meeting to discuss it in caucus at length Monday afternoon.
