by all sides. www.cnn.com/2016/03/22/politics/2016-election-poll-donald-trump-hillary-clinton/index.htmlVery high negative perception for the GOP and Trump. High negative perception for Hillary Clinton. Clinton close win over Cruz and on the losing side of a theoretical match-up against Kasich. A man purportedly in his 90s wrote a letter to the editor of my newspaper. He told how years ago you'd vote not by checking a box for the person you wanted to vote for, but by marking out the names of those you didn't like. This was my memory when I accompanied my mother into the curtained voting booth, that she savagely marked out the names of all but one candidate, nearly tearing the paper. I remember the viciousness and the total marking out of the names. In a gentler day that would be considered defacing the ballot, and it is possible that if my mother continued to vote that way, she got her votes thrown out. Then there were voting machines, forcing us to not just vote against, but to vote for somebody. As the letter writer emphasized, we lost something there. Because when you vote you don't have to vote for somebody you like, just vote against those you dislike most. Last man or woman standing good, bad, or indifferent gets your vote. 2016 may be an election where there's a lot of voting against.
