On Monday, Gov. Doug Ducey pledged to be “a partner in strengthening Arizona higher education.” On Friday, we learned that he’s apparently going to be partner in name only. Ducey – he of the “Sharing Economy” -- is proposing that we share a whopping $8 million of state’s budget surplus with universities. This, after cutting $99 million this year from a university system that already had endured the nation’s deepest cuts since the Great Recession. The applause from university circles was deafening.
