Oklahoma House minority leader criticizes Republicans for lack of action on state budgetOKLAHOMA CITY — House Minority Leader Scott Inman criticized the GOP-controlled statehouse on Thursday for failing to make progress on resolving the state’s budget crisis. “I am standing before you Thursday in an empty legislative chamber,” said Inman, D-Del City. “The House of Representatives isn’t in session today. It wasn’t in session last Thursday. We normally are, but the Legislature, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to go home and do something else.” The House and Senate normally work on Thursday but have taken the last two Thursdays off. Historically, lawmakers have taken the Thursday before Easter off because they work on Presidents Day. The week of spring break is also usually a shortened legislative week. But each day, the budget crisis gets worse, Inman said. Lawmakers expect to have $1.3 billion less to spend in crafting a fiscal year 2017 budget. Meanwhile, the revenue failure for the current fiscal year could get worse, Inman said.
