David Boren says penny tax for schools will be on Oklahoma ballotBackers of a penny sales tax increase for schools have surpassed the number of voter signatures required to put the issue on the November ballot, University of Oklahoma President David Boren said Monday. Halfway through the 90-day period for collecting 123,000 signatures, supporters already have gathered twice that many. Boren, the chief supporter of the effort, said the success of the campaign so far shows people understand schools are in a financial crisis. "We think this is the fastest rate of gathering signatures in the history of the state," he said.
