Iowa House Republicans unveiled a comprehensive plan to provide oversight of Gov. Terry Branstad's controversial shift of the state's Medicaid health care program to private management companies. House Speaker Linda Upmeyer said Thursday the proposal will add consumer protections and accountability measures to ensure that patients receive high-quality care, and to prevent fraud and waste of taxpayer dollars. "At the end of the day, what is important to know is that we have never, ever held this state's health plan to higher standards than we have today," Upmeyer, R-Clear Lake, told reporters at her weekly news briefing. Data compiled on state reports will be available on a website for all Iowans to examine and reach their own conclusions, the speaker added.
