A 59-year-old Santa Fe woman climbing in Diablo Canyon, a popular spot for rock climbing northwest of Santa Fe, died Monday afternoon after she fell about 175 feet, a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office report says. A friend who was with Susan Sarossy said they had been climbing throughout the day with friends and were on their last climb when the accident occurred, the report says. Three physicians who were rock climbing nearby saw Sarossy fall and two of them climbed down in an effort to help the woman, the report says. They tried to revive her through CPR but Sarossy died of her injuries. Sarossy’s friend told deputies that “she may have been confused and did not anchor herself down correctly prior to pushing off the wall,” the report says.
