Grand jurors to weigh police shooting death of David Joseph in May
Travis County felony prosecutors plan to present evidence in the police shooting death of a naked 17-year-old to a grand jury the week of May 2 for possible criminal charges against the officer.
District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said grand jurors likely will need up to six half-day sessions to review the case and hear witness testimony before deciding whether to indict former Officer Geoffrey Freeman in the death of David Joseph.
Because of the grand jury schedule, a decision likely wouldn’t happen until mid-May.
Freeman shot Joseph in February after he said Joseph, who was behaving aggressively and erratically, charged at him while he responded to a disturbance call in North Austin.
