McALLEN — Donna school district superintendent Jesus Rene Reyna testified Monday during a jury trial that the school board’s majority threatened his job if he did not comply with their demands to hire, demote and promote more than 100 district employees. “The phrase used repeatedly during our meeting was that they were ‘getting a lot of heat from their supporters,’” Reyna said to a jury of 11 community members who will decide if the current school board majority demoted six employees for their political affiliations, gender and age. “They said these changes would dictate if I remained superintendent,” Reyna added. The trial involving six Donna Independent School District employees who sued the district and six trustees claiming they were retaliated against for supporting the opposing slate in the November 2014 elections, began Monday before U.S. District Judge Randy Crane.
