Eugene insurance agent pleads guilty to sexually abusing and sodomizing an adopted daughter
“Dad, it makes me sad that we are here today.”
Those words, uttered in a packed courtroom at Lane County Circuit Court Tuesday morning by a 22-year-old woman, were directed at Richard Hayes Jackson, an insurance salesman and former church pastor who pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual abuse and sodomy of his adopted daughter.
Jackson, 61, received a 15-year prison sentence for the abuse, which occurred during the years when the daughter was 3 to 12 years old. The victim was among Jackson’s 12 children.
In court, the victim told Jackson she wished they could have been the happy, loving family that everyone in the community believed them to be, and wished that he could have loved her in the way a father is supposed to love a daughter.
